What You Should Know About Botox
Botox
Botulinum toxin is a protein-based drug produced under laboratory conditions from the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Its primary aim is to temporarily relax muscles. Its areas of use include strabismus treatment, muscle spasm treatment, and, nowadays, it is frequently used for aesthetic purposes such as sweating, wrinkles, teeth grinding, and migraine treatment.
Since it is a medication, treatment should certainly be performed by a specialist physician and at doses and suitable points tailored to the individual.
In our country today, the generic names of botulinum toxin are Dysport, Nabota, and Allergan Botox. Dysport is produced by a French company, and its production laboratory is located in England. It received FDA approval in 2009. Nabota Botox originates from South Korea and received FDA approval in 2019. The Botox drug from the Allergan company is of central origin in Dublin, Ireland, and is FDA approved.
Which Botox is more beneficial?
Although there are no significant advantages over each other, Dysport has a longer duration of effect by nature. However, these durations can vary according to the individual, muscle volume, and muscle strength.
If a person has previously received another brand of Botox and has developed resistance, switching to another brand of medication is necessary. There is also no known harm in using different brands each time.
What should I pay attention to after Botox?
The most important issue is that we do not recommend lying down for 6-8 hours. During this time, the injected substance may spread to the surrounding muscles, resulting in reduced movement in unwanted areas of the face.
Another important issue is to avoid hot environments; activities such as bathing or blow-drying are also not recommended for 6-8 hours.
It is a comfortable procedure that allows us to continue our daily lives in about 10 minutes. Its effect starts within 10 days and lasts about 4-5 months, varying from person to person. After that, a repeat treatment will be necessary.
